Wider Church Community

20150612-xt3-logo-img-lgeIn all of our work together we aim to inspire our young people in their faith and empower them to see how they can live out their faith in our wider church.

20150401-cys-logo-smlWe attempt to do this by working closely with Catholic Youth Services and our local parish youth leaders across the diocese. This includes accessing youth ministry resources from across Australia including via Xt3

PrintWe are also building connections with Church Agencies such as Caritas, St Vincent De Paul and Catholic Mission. Many of our schools also have strong connections with youth programs and events connected to their School Charism such as Marist Youth Ministries

Diocesan Youth Ministry Support

20151209There is a Youth Ministry Team at Sydney Catholic Schools that supports the school YMCs in their work with students and coordinates their involvement in large-scale events such as World Youth Day 2016 and the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (in Sydney, in December 2017).

The SCS Youth Ministry Team coordinates regional youth ministry events for our students, such as; the annual social justice forum, youth forums, evangelisation days and special events. The team also provides ongoing support and resources for our school based Youth Ministry Coordinators.

Local School Youth Ministry

Local School Youth Ministry
There is a Youth Ministry Coordinator (YMC) in each of the Archdiocesan Secondary Schools. These YMCs are teachers within the school who have been selected to these positions of leadership, working with the Religious Education Coordinator and other staff in engaging students in faith and mission activities within the school.

Some of their local school activities include a range of voluntary opportunities such as:

  • A variety of prayer opportunities
  • Leadership opportunities in Music and as Eucharistic Ministers, serving local liturgy in schools and parishes
  • Supporting Catechists in the teaching of State School students
  • Supporting Deanery Youth Groups across our Diocese
  • Offering RCIA for interested students within our schools
  • Immersion, justice and outreach programs that connect to Catholic social teachings and the wider church in action, supporting the needs of people living in poverty and disadvantage
